    Common Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

You must be aged 50 or over. You will also need financial proof โ€” either 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account, a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB, or a combination totalling 800,000 THB per year. A health insurance policy and criminal background check are also required.

You can apply at a Thai consulate abroad before entering Thailand, or change status from inside Thailand depending on your current visa. You will need a legally recognised marriage certificate, your Thai spouse's ID and house registration, and proof of finances.

Yes โ€” studying Thai language at a Ministry of Education-licensed school is one of the most common uses of the Education Visa (Non-ED). Extensions require proof of continued enrolment and regular attendance.

These are two separate documents and you need both to work legally. The Non-Immigrant B Visa is your entry permission. The Work Permit authorises you to work at a specific company. Working on any other visa type is illegal and carries serious penalties.

If you report voluntarily even when late, the fine is typically 2,000 THB. If immigration officers discover you have not reported, the fine is 5,000 THB. Your 90-day clock also resets each time you re-enter Thailand after a trip abroad.

Any time you want to leave Thailand and return without your extension being cancelled. Single re-entry costs 1,000 THB; multiple re-entry costs 3,800 THB. Obtain one at any Immigration office or at international airport departure halls before check-in.

You can apply up to 30 days before your permission-to-stay expires. We recommend applying 2โ€“4 weeks early to allow time for documentation and any unexpected complications. An expired extension means you are overstaying, which carries fines and can affect future applications.
