Visa Validity, Permission to Stay and Reporting Dates: A Three-Date Checklist

Many immigration mistakes begin with a reminder labelled only “visa expires.” Replace that label with the actual record and action so you can see which deadline you are managing.

Visa validity

This is the period in which the visa can be used under its conditions. Read the issued visa or e-Visa record, including its entry conditions. Do not assume its final validity date is the same as the last day you may remain after entry.

Permission to stay

The admission or extension record identifies the period currently granted. Use the actual stamp or decision when planning departure or an extension. If the date is unclear or appears incorrect, ask the authority to confirm it rather than substituting a calculation from an online article.

Reporting date

An applicable address-reporting appointment is another administrative date. A report does not grant a longer stay, and a new visa application does not automatically complete a reporting task.

Build a record-based calendar

  1. Create a visa-validity entry linked to the issued visa.
  2. Create a stay-expiry entry linked to the latest permission.
  3. Create a reporting entry linked to the accepted report or confirmed entry history.
  4. Add preparation reminders ahead of the action dates.
  5. Review all three after travel, a new passport or an extension.

For example, a long-validity visa may remain usable after a particular stay ends. That does not permit ignoring the shorter permission date. The records answer different questions.

Frequently asked questions

Which date controls how long I can remain now?

Use the current permission granted by immigration, while following the other conditions that apply to your status.

Can one reminder cover everything?

Separate reminders are clearer because the actions and supporting records differ.
