Travel during an education stay needs two checks: whether the trip fits your course and whether your immigration permission will remain valid for your return. A school holiday and an immigration permission are different things.
Check the study calendar
Give the school your departure and return dates. Ask whether lessons, assessments or extension-document collection fall in that period. Obtain any absence arrangements in writing and keep the class timetable with your travel plan.
Read the permission you currently hold
Check the latest permission-to-stay date, the visa’s entry conditions and any existing re-entry permit. The London embassy’s standard ED guidance explains why departure without a required re-entry permit can end the current stay permission. Confirm your own category; do not apply ordinary ED advice to a different education scheme without checking.
Match the return date to the permission end date
A re-entry permit does not add time. Returning after the underlying permission expires is not the same as returning within it. If the proposed trip overlaps an extension deadline, resolve the order of travel and application before paying for tickets.
Carry a return folder
- Passport and relevant visa or e-Visa record.
- Current extension and re-entry evidence where applicable.
- School enrollment and contact details.
- Accommodation details for the return.
On arrival, check the new entry stamp before leaving the control area. A mistake is easier to raise while the entry is being processed than weeks later at an extension appointment.
