A job change can involve more than signing a new contract. Review the records supporting your work and your immigration stay before assuming the old arrangement continues to cover the new role.
Collect the existing records
Prepare the current work-authorisation evidence, passport, visa and latest permission stamp. Record the end date of the old job, proposed start date of the new job and any planned travel.
Ask about the correct update or application procedure
Official immigration guidance identifies job termination and changes of position among circumstances that can affect the supporting immigration arrangement. The correct labour procedure also needs to be assessed; do not assume a single update form completes every step. Ask the labour authority and the employers’ document contacts what applies to your category.
Check the immigration consequences separately
Explain the employment change to the authority handling your stay. Ask whether cancellation, a new application or another update is required, and establish the relevant deadlines. Do not assume the printed expiry date settles every consequence of ending the supporting employment.
Use a transition sheet
- Old employer’s final employment date.
- New employer and actual role.
- Required notices, changes or new approvals.
- Immigration procedure and deadlines.
- Who issues each document and confirms completion.
Keep copies of submissions and authority instructions. A promise that an application is being prepared is different from evidence that the required change or permission has been granted.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start the new job while paperwork is unresolved?
Confirm the necessary authorisation and timing with the responsible authority before starting.
Does changing my employment contract update immigration automatically?
No. Check the labour and immigration procedures separately and keep evidence of each required step.
