Non-B Visa and Work Permit: Two Different Parts of a Thailand Employment Plan

A Non-B visa and permission to work answer different questions. A complete employment plan should identify the immigration route and the employment-authorisation procedure before the proposed start date.

What the visa does

The Non-B category covers specified business and employment purposes. The responsible embassy’s checklist differs by purpose; London publishes separate employment and business-visit sections. Use the list that matches the activity rather than choosing a category only because its name includes “business.”

What the work-permit process addresses

Official BOI guidance distinguishes visa arrangements from obtaining work permission before beginning work under the applicable process. Confirm the authorisation required for your role with the employer and responsible labour authority. A visa approval should not be assumed to complete that separate step.

Build one coordinated timetable

  1. Describe the actual role and employer.
  2. Identify the immigration and work-authorisation routes.
  3. List employer and applicant documents separately.
  4. Confirm the required approval sequence.
  5. Set a start date that respects the necessary permissions.

Ask who is responsible for each submission and who will tell you when the relevant approval has been granted. A general statement that “HR is handling it” leaves the key decision and evidence unclear.

Check the issued records

Review the name, passport details, employer information and any relevant conditions. Keep the visa, admission, work-authorisation evidence and future expiry dates in distinct sections of the file.

Frequently asked questions

Does holding a Non-B automatically allow every job?

No. Confirm the work-authorisation requirements and conditions for the actual role.

Can a job offer replace all supporting evidence?
