Retirement Extension Finances: Building an Evidence Calendar

Retirement financial preparation is about evidence over time, not simply a balance on appointment day. Start with the financial route accepted for your application, then plan the documents and dates it requires.

Understand the published deposit timeline

Thailand’s government retirement guidance describes a deposit route requiring 800,000 baht for at least two months before applying and three months after permission, with at least 400,000 baht retained afterward. Confirm the current rule and its application to your own case with the handling immigration office before moving funds.

Distinguish qualification from proof

A bank balance, a bank letter and a statement each establish different facts. Ask which documents the office needs to show ownership, balance and history. Check how recent the letter must be and whether passbook updates or transaction records are requested.

Map the dates

  1. Record the intended filing date and stay-expiry date.
  2. Mark the relevant financial-history period.
  3. Identify any period after approval when conditions continue.
  4. Arrange dated bank evidence close to submission as instructed.
  5. Keep copies and record follow-up requirements.

Leave room for bank holidays, statement production and corrections. A reminder labelled “get bank letter” is less useful than one that names the branch, requested documents and target issue date.

Review changes before they happen

Moving money between accounts, closing an account or changing the financial route can affect the history you are trying to demonstrate. Ask how the planned change will be documented before making it. Do not assume a transfer preserves every evidential requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use income evidence instead?

Ask the handling office which financial routes and supporting evidence it accepts for your circumstances. Do not substitute a personal calculation for the prescribed proof.

Is one balance screenshot enough?

It may not establish the requested history or official confirmation. Follow the actual document checklist.
